In talking about the economies of writing, I glad to see us inching toward a richer sense of representation that goes beyond the limited currency of alphabetic inscription and the exchange associated with written English. It was cool to see Ellen Cushman, and LuMing Mao, and Ralph Cintron, for instance, using visual examples so effectively.
Even better, however, I like seeing some of the younger scholars working so seamlessly in a mix of media and modalities to present their work. I think they provide a vector for us to pay attention to. Their work is so richly represented and textured in ways that we should continue exploring because it help us see and hear things that writing alone finds it difficult to convey.
Importantly, I think, there are different kinds of economies and efficiencies that adhere to making and conveying meaning. Some of these ways of making meaning help us linger or dwell on meaning and understand it from different perspectives.
