I'm interested in Cushman's comment that she's interested in investigating the ways Cherokee writing "works." Given the conference theme, Cushman's research has helped me better understand the relationship between the ways the concept of labor inflects how writers and writing researchers labor over writing and understanding how it works (labor over the relationship between writing, identity, history, politics, economies, modalities, etc.).
